Making informed choices
When making the choice to apply fungicides either to seed and or soil for Rhizoctonia management it is important to use these products effectively and appropriately. Always check the product label for application rates and water volumes to use. In many cases, the coverage of the seed and or placement in the soil is critical to ensure that the active is delivered to the targeted zone thereby maximizing the potential effectiveness of the product. Incorrect application of fungicides including excessively high water rates, especially for seed treatments, can lead to poor control and possible seed piece breakdown.
To get the best return on the investment made from purchasing any fungicide it is worth taking the time and effort to ensure that they are applied correctly to the target and waste is minimal. It is important to regularly check that applicators are working correctly and they are calibrated to ensure the appropriate rate is delivered as required.
Potato seed that is treated with a fungicide or pesticide should be clearly labelled with the treatment that has been applied. In addition, all treatments should be recorded in your spray diary.
